I am always trying to balance ways on being a good dieter when I am constantly on the go. I have looked into ways to keep a healthy lifestyle when my schedule is busy with work, school, and family. Here are my top ten tips to keep fruits and vegetables in your diet when you are on the go.
1. Keep vegetables and fruits readily available – When you are at the supermarket shopping for groceries, buy enough produce to last you for about five to seven days. This is the normal life span for produce.
2. Pack lightly - If you are going to travel, try not to fall into temptation. In a small container, pack sliced apples, carrots, or celery to ward of any temptation to a fast food restaurant.
3. Drink your veggies – If you have a juicer, try making some carrot juice and drink that instead of diet soda. Or drink a V8.
4. Frozen grapes are great – Want a tasty treat but not the calories? Try freezing your grapes instead of having them sit in the refrigerator. Frozen grapes are really refreshing on a hot summer day.
5. Vegetable combinations – Take a cup of 3 different frozen vegetables and microwave for a few minutes. Top with some fat free Italian or Vinaigrette salad dressing.
6. Don’t be messy! – There are some messy fruits but you can easily slip a banana or apple in your bag and eat it while traveling and not make a mess or get sticky.
7. Make a smoothie – Instead of spending money on meal replacement shakes, grab you blender and throw in two cups of milk, one banana and a few strawberries. Blend and then enjoy.
8. A matter of convenience – Convenience stores and now selling more healthy options for consumers. Stop at the local convenience store for healthier selections.
9. Don’t forget dried fruit – You can easily pack some dried cranberries, apricots, and plums for a great afternoon snack.
10. Have a salad! – Salads are easy to take with you when you are on the go. You can use a small container with your lettuce, cherry tomatoes, sliced peppers, and carrots. Have some packaged salad dressing on the side and lunch is served.
